Yahoo Taiwan reports its video view growth doubles
The Taiwan unit of Yahoo Inc. said Wednesday that its video views have doubled over the past two-and-half years thanks to a wider offering of online content from its strategic partners.
The Web pioneer said its video views in Taiwan increased by 104 percent from January 2013 to June this year, while its video views from mobile devices surged nearly 10 times.
Yahoo Taiwan attributed the success to its offering of original, authorized and live-streaming videos by partnering with local content providers such as LiTV and Coture New Media Co., as well as music venue Legacy and television station FTV.
“We will continue to work with more strategic partners and content providers to create a premium ecosystem for video content,” Yahoo Taiwan Managing Director Erika Wang told a media briefing.
Yahoo Taiwan’s video strategy is expected to cash in on the growing popularity of watching videos online.
According to a survey released in August by research firm comScore Inc., around 11.72 million people in Taiwan — or 87 percent of the country’s Internet users — often watch videos online with a frequency of seven times a day.
