Tumbatu needs police station
TUMBATU Member of Parliament Juma Haji (CCM) has appealed to the government’s assistance to bolster defence and security in the area following episodes of lawlessness.
The lawmaker said there have been frequent incidents of breach of peace in his constituency, but when such incidences are reported to the police, they are unable to respond promptly due to a number of challenges including transportation and the Island’s geographical location.
“Doesn’t the government see the importance of constructing a police station within the Island and availing them with transport taking into consideration the geographical location of the Island?” he queried.
Responding to the question, the Deputy minister of Home Affairs Hamad Masauni acknowledged the challenge faced by police in responding to incidents of lawlessness in the Island due to its geographical location.
He however noted that taking into consideration the geographical location of the Island, the police force has been deploying daily patrols to the Island to bolster security in Tumbatu.
“We currently have a boat with the capacity to carry ten police officers and when finances are increased, we will get another larger speed boat with a capacity to carry more than ten security officers,” he explained.
