Can the caning

-

It seems that every week we are reading stories of child abuse here in Thailand.

In Mae Moo, Aug 28, it was alleged, by his partner, that young actor Film Natgawi had abused their three-month old child.

Earlier, it was also reported that a young boy returned home with a shirt covered in blood following a beating from a teacher; the school asked the parents of the victim to “let it be” because the teacher would be soon retiring. Another boy was beaten 40 times on the buttocks for not cleaning the classroom. His parents were told that if they complained it would affect the teacher’s morale.

There are stories of monks whipping novices, parents slapping children, and teachers caning students. Teachers who sexually abuse young students are moved to another school in another district and in many cases no charges are brought. Who can forget the grandmother who held a knife to the throat of her young grandson because he kept asking for a tablet, electronic not medicinal?

When will Thai society stand up and stop allowing people in positions of authority and power to hit, smack, cane and beat a child? It’s all child abuse. And to all those who say that they were beaten and caned as a child and it didn’t do them any harm, did it do any good? EBRIL
