Re: “Words matter” (PostBag, Oct 1).

Jack Gilead tells us that he and a visiting friend from Canada nearly choked trying not to laugh at an unfortunate young noodle seller in Prachin Buri whose English, or lack thereof, was not up to Jack’s standard.

Perhaps if he and his friend had rudimentary knowledge of and the courtesy to speak Thai to the young man, his answer might not have been so hilarious.
