Under The Shadow

This Iranian/British horror film is set during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s and a few years after the Islamic Revolution. Shideh (Narges Rashidi) is a mother living in an apartment with her young daughter while her husband is fighting in the war. But soon the house is terrorised by djinns, the supernatur­al being in the Islamic belief, and Shideh has to do everything to protect her child. Directed by Babak Anvari.

The Accountant

Ben Affleck plays Christian, an eccentric math genius hired by a technology company to uncook their account books. But the Treasury Department is investigat­ing a black market operator involved with a terrorist organisati­on, and what Christian finds out in the numbers is far more devious than he first imagined. As he gets closer to the truth, the body count starts to rise. Directed by Gavin O’Connor.

The Magnificen­t Seven

Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke lead the charge in this Western remake. As a greedy industrial­ist takes over a small town in the Old West, a woman hires seven outlaws, bounty hunters and mercenarie­s to fight back. Directed by Anton Fuqua.

Max Steel

In this sci-fi action film, Ben Winchell plays Max McGrath who has a symbiotic bond with an alien called Steel. Together the two friends join forces to fight a mysterious being that’s threaten to destroy the world. Directed by Stewart Hendler.

The Girl On The Train

Emily Blunt stars in the lead role of this movie adaptation of the popular 2012 novel by Paula Hawkins, with the action relocated from London to New York. Blunt plays Rachel, a divorced alcoholic who commutes by train to her work every day. One morning, her mind still obsessed with her failed marriage, she witnesses something terrible from the train window, and it throws her life into a dark turn. Directed by Tate Taylor.

Snowden

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Edward Snowden, a system analyst who leaks classified informatio­n from the National Security Agency. Based on the true story, the film begins with Snowden hiding out in a hotel room in Hong Kong where he secretly meets three journalist­s, and where he recounts the key episodes of his life that lead him to become a whistle-blower. This Thai comedy takes its inspiratio­n from Bangkok’s very own bus No 8, a route notorious for its drivers’ reckless disregard of road safety and passenger comfort. Directed by Poj Anon.

Deepwater Horizon

Based on a true account when an oildrillin­g rig exploded off the Louisiana coast in 2010, the film stars Mark Wahlberg as Mike, an electricia­n on board an offshore rig called Deepwater Horizon. Poor maintenanc­e plays a part in the disaster when pent-up gas causes an eruption, throwing the life of everyone on the rig in peril. Banding together, the workers must use their wits to make it out alive amid all the chaos. Directed by Peter Berg.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

In this fantasy story based on a young adult novel by Ransom Riggs, teenager Jake (Asa Butterfiel­d) leaves his home in Florida for a remote Welsh island to find out about a home for peculiar children his grandfathe­r told him about. Arriving at a misty castle, he meets other “mutants” and they travel back to 1943 for an adventure. But danger strikes when he learns about their special powers. Directed by Tim Burton.
