Fire erupts in two-storey building, causing B5m damage

- POST REPORTERS

A two-storey wooden building was engulfed in flames, causing more than five million baht in damage, in Phetchabun province yesterday. No casualties were reported.

The building, housing shops as well as residential units, is near Bangkok Bank’s Phetchabun branch on Phra Phutthabat road in Muang municipality.

The fire erupted in a shop which repairs electric appliances in the building.

The blaze rapidly spread to the next room, destroying the building’s structure.

Seven fire engines were deployed to the scene.

Firefighters took several hours to extinguish the fire.

The fire may have been caused by a short circuit in an electric signboard at the shop.

Meanwhile, a huge blaze yesterday ravaged a landfill operated by a private company in Mae Sot municipality, tambon Mae Pa in Tak province.

Firemen along with several fire engines were sent to the scene. They found it difficult to extinguish the blaze owing to the vast size of the landfill site.

After several hours, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, with about 20% of the landfill destroyed.

Terdkiat Chinsoranan, mayor of Mae Sot municipality, instructed various agencies to inspect the scene to prevent any further outbreak of fire. No estimate of damage was available.
