A Russian tourist washed ashore yesterday in Trat after spending four days at sea in a rubber boat in a fruitless attempt to reach Pattaya. Sao Promrod, the chief of Jek Luck village in Khlong Yai district, alerted police after villagers reported seeing a foreigner in a rubber boat on the beach.
Villagers in Khon Buri district of Nakhon Ratchasima were frightened by a herd of five or so wild elephants last night that appeared ready to attack. The animals were scared away by Thap Lan National Park officials and soldiers. The officials were sent in after villagers informed them their farms had been ravaged by elephants for the past week. The pachyderms destroyed their crops and acted aggressively.
