A Rus­sian tourist washed ashore yes­ter­day in Trat af­ter spend­ing four days at sea in a rub­ber boat in a fruit­less at­tempt to reach Pat­taya. Sao Prom­rod, the chief of Jek Luck vil­lage in Kh­long Yai dis­trict, alerted po­lice af­ter vil­lagers re­ported see­ing a for­eigner in a rub­ber boat on the beach.

Vil­lagers in Khon Buri dis­trict of Nakhon Ratchasima were fright­ened by a herd of five or so wild ele­phants last night that ap­peared ready to at­tack. The an­i­mals were scared away by Thap Lan Na­tional Park of­fi­cials and soldiers. The of­fi­cials were sent in af­ter vil­lagers in­formed them their farms had been rav­aged by ele­phants for the past week. The pachy­derms de­stroyed their crops and acted ag­gres­sively.
