CHON BURI: Po­lice yes­ter­day de­nied a bail re­quest to a char­ity organiser who was ar­rested for al­legedly mis­han­dling do­na­tions for a hos­pi­tal in the prov­ince.

Po­lice with Samet district po­lice sta­tion yes­ter­day ar­rested Chokchai Kokan­ruat, organiser of the “Walk-Run Marathon Chon Buri Char­ity”.

The event took place last month. Af­ter in­ter­ro­ga­tion, po­lice de­cided not to grant bail for fear that the 48-year-old sus­pect may flee, ac­cord­ing to Samet po­lice sta­tion’s in­quiry of­fi­cer Lt Col Wut­thi­nan Nam­saeng.

The or­gan­is­ers had planned to raise funds for buy­ing med­i­cal equip­ment for Bu­rapha Uni­ver­sity Hos­pi­tal.

The event drew more than 3.46 mil­lion baht in do­na­tions, but only 549,415 baht were re­port­edly given to the hos­pi­tal.
