AMCHAM Executive Director’s Remarks
Fall is a very busy time at AMCHAM so I want to ensure you know what we are up to in the AMCHAM office and to remind you of some of the activities you don’t want to miss.
First, by the time you receive this edition of T- AB Magazine, the 2015- 2016 Membership Directory will be hot off the press and ready for you to pick up. This 480 page Directory lists all AMCHAM member companies and representatives and contains information about a variety of AMCHAM programs. As mailing the Directories is a very tedious task, we will have them available at AMCHAM events for you to pick up or you may send a messenger to collect at the AMCHAM office.
Coming up on October 14 we will have a “Meet the Board Candidates” social net- working night. This is an opportunity for you to meet the candidates running for the 2016- 2017 Board of Governors. While campaigning is not really expected of the candidates, it is always nice for members to be able to put a face to the name on the ballot, so please come out and meet the candidates.
AMCHAM’S Annual General Meeting ( AGM) and board elections are generally held on the last Wednesday of October. We have scheduled October 28 for the AGM this year, but as we have invited the incoming U. S. Ambassador- designate Glyn Davies to join us for this event the final date will be dependent upon his schedule. We will keep you posted on any changes.
The first week of November is designated for the AMCHAM Student Scholarship Orientation and Career Camps in Bangkok. Each year AMCHAM provides scholarships to 200 disadvantaged university students to help them complete their education. We host a two- day Orientation Camp for incoming recipients and a Career Camp for those about to graduate. We expect that approximately 150 students will attend these two events. Both are excellent opportunities for us to interact and engage with these youth to help them in their university and future careers. We require a significant amount of resources to deliver on these programs and if you can assist us with either time, financial assistance or even providing hats or shirts or other items for the students this would be highly appreciated. Please contact Sheree at Sheree@ amchamthailand. com for more details on how you can help.
On November 25, get ready for our ninth annual AMCHAM CSR Excellence ( ACE) Award luncheon. We will be recognizing companies who have completed the ACE benchmark survey and whose CSR programs achieve high marks in the assessment categories designated by AMCHAM. This is one of the Chamber’s most popular events as people come out to learn about members’ CSR programs and those who qualify get an opportunity to be publicly recognized for outstanding CSR. We encourage you to book a table, bring your staff and come and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving lunch.
On November 27 we will host the annual AMCHAM Turkey Charitee Golf Tournament so you can work off your Thanksgiving Dinner. The Sports Committee has a great day of golfing and fun planned and yes, we will also have turkey for those of you who did not enjoy a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
This edition of T- AB introduces two new sections: ‘ Throwback T- AB’ which will look at previous editions of the magazine and remind us of the history of the Chamber as we prepare for celebrating our 60th anniversary ( page 46) and a section summarizing recent legal updates to keep the membership informed on new regulations that might affect their business ( page 38).
Best regards, Judy Benn Executive Director
