Joint Legal & Tax
On August 17, the committee met at the AMCHAM Citi Boardroom learn about the new Thai Inheritance and Gift Tax Law from Jonathan Blaine, Tax Consultant at Baker & Mckenzie. On August 21, the committee met at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit to hear about “Innovations in Recruitment: Attracting Talent in Digital Age” from Atul Harkinsanka, Linkedin ( via Skype); Markus Wehrhahn, RLC Recruitment; Siwimon Sukmahan, PPG Coatings ( Thailand); Brendan Cunningham, Adecco Consulting; and Derek Brown, Pronto Marketing. Myanmar Task Force
On August 24 the Task Force met at the AMCHAM Citi Boardroom to hear an analysis of the political and business risks in Myanmar in the run- up to the elections by Thet Aung Min Latt from Diamond Intelligence in Myanmar. Joint Healthcare & ICT
On August 20, the committees met at the AMCHAM Citi Boardroom to hear from James Spence Miser, expert from Bumrungrad International Hospital, who provided insights into cognitive computing and the Watson for Oncology system that will change the future of Healthcare system. Eastern Seaboard Networking
On August 21 at the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, The GermanThai Chamber of Commerce ( GTCC) hosted an Eastern Seaboard networking night in conjunction with AMCHAM, Austcham, and the Belgian, British, German, South African, New Zealand and Mexican Chambers of Commerce in Thailand. The attendees mixed and mingled while enjoying food and beverages kindly provided by event sponsor Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya.
On August 25, the Chapter gathered at the U. S. Ambassador’s Residence in Vientiane, Lao PDR, for a breakfast meeting with the Ambassador and to meet the new Deputy Chief of Mission ( DCM). On August 25, the committee met at AMCHAM’S Citi Boardroom to hear John Frangos, a consultant with Tilleke & Gibbins, share an overview of the Licensing Facilitation Act and the Organic Act on Counter- Corruption and how they can affect foreign investors and doing business in Thailand. On August 27, the Young Professionals Committee and friends converged at Hero Food & Gathering for a social networking night. The event raised Baht 9,500 for the AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation’s Adopt- a- School program.
