ames ( Jim) P. Rooney, Chair­man of J. P. Rooney & As­so­ciates Ltd., and a long- stand­ing and ac­tive mem­ber of AMCHAM, passed away on Oc­to­ber 3, 2015. Jim had trav­elled from his home in Bangkok to Seat­tle, Wash­ing­ton, where he and his wife main­tain a res­i­dence. On the morn­ing of Oc­to­ber 3 he had a stroke and was taken to the hos­pi­tal, where he died just af­ter 11 pm that night with his wife by his side.

While deeply shocked and sad­dened, his fam­ily is grate­ful that he re­mained in fine health and good spir­its up to the day of his death and that his pass­ing was swift and pain­less.

Jim was cre­mated in Seat­tle on Oc­to­ber 8 and his re­mains were brought back to Thai­land for fi­nal fu­neral rites at Wat That Thong in Bangkok on Novem­ber 5- 7, 2015. He is sur­vived by his wife Dawn F. Rooney and daugh­ter Sarah W. Rooney.

Jim Rooney had over 40 years of com­mit­ment to the Cham­ber in­clud­ing serv­ing as AMCHAM Thai­land Pres­i­dent in 1976. In ad­di­tion to sev­eral terms on the AMCHAM Board of Gov­er­nors, he chaired the APCAC, Brief­ing, and Tax & Leg­is­la­tion Com­mit­tees. He was twice elected Chair­man of the Asia- Pa­cific Coun­cil of Amer­i­can Cham­bers of Commerce ( APCAC), serv­ing in 1981 and 1982. In this ca­pac­ity, he rep­re­sented the in­ter­ests of Amer­i­can busi­nesses in the Asia- Pa­cific re­gion and tes­ti­fied be­fore Con­gres­sional com­mit­tees on in­ter­na­tional trade and in­vest­ment is­sues. Dur­ing that pe­riod he was ap­pointed to the Task Force on Ex­port Pol­icy, the Coun­cil on Small Busi­ness and the In­ter­na­tional Trade and In­vest­ment Com­mit­tees of the U. S. Cham­ber of Commerce.
