In Memoriam: jim Rooney
ames ( Jim) P. Rooney, Chairman of J. P. Rooney & Associates Ltd., and a long- standing and active member of AMCHAM, passed away on October 3, 2015. Jim had travelled from his home in Bangkok to Seattle, Washington, where he and his wife maintain a residence. On the morning of October 3 he had a stroke and was taken to the hospital, where he died just after 11 pm that night with his wife by his side.
While deeply shocked and saddened, his family is grateful that he remained in fine health and good spirits up to the day of his death and that his passing was swift and painless.
Jim was cremated in Seattle on October 8 and his remains were brought back to Thailand for final funeral rites at Wat That Thong in Bangkok on November 5- 7, 2015. He is survived by his wife Dawn F. Rooney and daughter Sarah W. Rooney.
Jim Rooney had over 40 years of commitment to the Chamber including serving as AMCHAM Thailand President in 1976. In addition to several terms on the AMCHAM Board of Governors, he chaired the APCAC, Briefing, and Tax & Legislation Committees. He was twice elected Chairman of the Asia- Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce ( APCAC), serving in 1981 and 1982. In this capacity, he represented the interests of American businesses in the Asia- Pacific region and testified before Congressional committees on international trade and investment issues. During that period he was appointed to the Task Force on Export Policy, the Council on Small Business and the International Trade and Investment Committees of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce.
