AMCHAM Executive Director’s Remarks

Thai-American Business (T-AB) Magazine - - Contents -

I love our new 60th Anniversary logo and the proud fact it represents 60 years of U. S. business in Thailand. The U. S. business community here is strong, resilient and committed to Thailand, despite the many ups and downs!

We are looking at a variety of other ways that we may be able to celebrate this special occasion. As a kick- off event, on March 24th at the Annual General Meeting at the Dusit Thani Hotel, we are delighted to have David Lyman, AMCHAM President in 1975 and 1986, reminisce about his more than 40 years as an AMCHAM member. Those of you who have read the earlier articles in the magazine will also note that David’s father was instrumental in founding the Chamber in 1956, so it is an honor to have a family legacy to help celebrate our 60th anniversary. We have a number of other special activities also coming up to make this year extraordinary.

On Saturday, April 23 at the Grand Hyatt Erawan is the annual Governors Ball. This is our most popular annual social event. The stated purpose is to recognize and honor the current Board of Governors but it is also our largest fund- raising event for the AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation and lots of fun! We hope that you can join us, tables are available ( and seating is dependent upon payment time) and we are happy to arrange seating for solo attendees or couples. We are targeting to raise two million Baht at the Silent Auction which will go to support 200 university scholarships for underprivileged Thai students next year. Our theme this year is focused on the 60 years history of the Chamber and you can come in Black Tie – or a period costume from any decade between 1950- 2010!

We are also looking for items for the silent auction – be it goods, services, products, etc., We seek a variety of items to make the auction exciting and fun. Our thanks to United Airlines and ANA who have donated a grand prize already – two round- trip business class tickets to the U. S.! We have lots and lots of other great items and my thanks to all of you who have donated. There is still time to participate ( both at the ball and as a silent auction donor). Please contact Sheree at Sheree@ amchamthailand. com for more information.

A notice that we will shortly be commencing preparation of the 2016- 2107 Membership Directory. Right after Songkran we will start emailing out profiles and making sure that all companies have the correct company details and representatives. The Directory will go out to print in July and be available in mid- September. As a reminder, we do have available promotional space, or the option to expand your listing to a full- page with more details on your company if you are interested. If so, please contact Deanna at deanna@ amchamthailand. com.

We have also already started working on this year’s Independence Day picnic which will be held on July 2 at a new location- NIST International School on Sukhumvit Soi 15. Right after the Governors Ball we will be working on details for the picnic and will be looking for Star Sponsors, raffle prizes, giveaways and volunteers to help.

I also want to thank our 2016 Corporate Partners, seen at the end of this page, for their fabulous support of the Chamber. Without their financial contributions, the Chamber staff would be forced to canvass for sponsorship for each and every event, which as you can imagine, would be extremely time- consuming.
