On March 4, AMCHAM Myanmar’s HR Committee hosted a 2016 Labor and Employment Law Update at Sule Shangri- La Yangon Hotel. The intensive training seminar had two parts: the “2016 Labor and Employment Law Update,” presented by Eric Rose of the HRMR law firm, and the Myanmar Compensation and Welfare and Benefits Report, presented by David Binnion of West Indochina.
Eric Rose delivered an in- depth analysis of the current state of HR law and practice in Myanmar, and identified future trends, from issues of employee versus contractor status, foreigner versus citizen employment and registration requirements, term contracts versus unlimited contracts, minimum compensation versus contract compensation, taxes and fees, probation periods, working hours and overtime pay, holidays and vacation, and dismissal and severance. Moreover, this segment also addressed some of the other concerns which are affecting labor and employment in Myanmar, such as compliance matters, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act ( FCPA) and corruption, permits and registration, etc. During the second part of the seminar, David Binnion shared the recently released West Indochina’s Myanmar Compensation Report and Myanmar Welfare and Benefits Report. His presentation’s key points included best practices of employee retention, how to be an effective HR person, ways to incentives employees, and more. The event was attended by more than forty HR specialists.
