Thai­land’s ar­bi­tra­tion sys­tem was orig­i­nated by pro­mul­ga­tion of Ar­bi­tra­tion Act in 1987 and ar­bi­tra­tion is con­sid­ered as the process of com­mer­cial dis­pute res­o­lu­tion that is able to re­solve dis­putes con­ve­niently and rapidly while sav­ing time and costs. In ad­di­tion, ar­bi­tra­tion also helps to re­duce the num­ber of cases filed to the court im­prov­ing over­all ef­fi­ciency of jus­tice process. Since Thai govern­ment has re­al­ized on this im­por­tance, es­tab­lish­ment of Ar­bi­tra­tion Cen­ter has been driven as an im­por­tant and nec­es­sary pol­icy for en­hanc­ing over­all ar­bi­tra­tion stan­dards of Thai­land to meet with in­ter­na­tional stan­dards as well as pro­mot­ing Thai­land as the mar­ket of ar­bi­tra­tion. More­over, ar­bi­tra­tion has also been pre­ferred in­creas­ingly as ev­i­dence in the case of uti­liz­ing ar­bi­tra­tion process for re­solv­ing cross- bor­der cases. In ad­di­tion, es­tab­lish­ment of Ar­bi­tra­tion Cen­ter is also con­sid­ered as the prepa­ra­tion on the mech­a­nism of Thai­land’s dis­pute res­o­lu­tion for en­gag­ing as a mem­ber of AEC in 2015 as well as im­prov­ing Thai­land’s Ar­bi­tra­tion Cen­ter as the cen­ter of dis­pute res­o­lu­tion of ASEAN in the fu­ture.

Lao Tea and Nat­u­ral Prod­ucts is the re­sult and out­come of ru­ral de­vel­op­ment pro­grams in Phong Saly Prov­ince start­ing from 2000. Puer tea va­ri­etal were one vi­able up­land and high­land crop with mar­ket de­mand from China and with good grow­ing con­di­tions and cho­sen by the vil­lagers. The pur­pose of the com­pany and re­lated so­cial en­ter­prise is to source four Puer tea va­ri­eties from moun­tain vil­lages to en­able the vil­lagers to have sus­tain­able mar­kets with fair trade prices and or­ganic and nat­u­ral cer­ti­fi­ca­tions. Part of the pro­ceeds from tea or nat­u­ral prod­ucts sales will fund com­mu­nity vil­lage im­prove­ments such as schools, stu­dent dor­mi­to­ries, vil­lage medic sup­plies and schol­ar­ships for eth­nic vil­lagers.

The ef­forts of the com­pany are in co­or­di­na­tion with lo­cal Lao Govern­ment author­i­ties to en­sure un­der­stand­ing and shared ob­jec­tives to as­sist poor high­land vil­lages with sus­tain­able so­cial and eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment in dis­tant ar­eas while pro­tect­ing the nat­u­ral en­vi­ron­ment.
