Dear AMCHAM members,

Thai-American Business (T-AB) Magazine - - Property Trends -

Welcome back from what I hope was a pleasant and relaxing summer. I want to bring to your attention a couple of very important events coming up.

I am sure most of you are aware that AMCHAM has a very vibrant and active Student Scholarship program. Each year the Chamber provides scholarships to disadvantaged Thai students attending universities in Thailand. Each student receives Baht 25,000 a year and for the past several years we have been fortunate enough to grant 200 scholarships a year – making our scholarship program an annual five million Baht investment in the future of Thailand. The students come from universities all over Thailand and during the past thirty years of the scholarship program’s existence, more than 2,200 students have received a scholarship from AMCHAM.

The capstone event for the program is the annual Student Scholarship Career Camp which for the past six years has been funded by Fedex. During the Career Camp we bring the final year students to Bangkok for three days to help prepare them for their future careers. The Career Camp has a packed schedule of company visits, lectures and workshops, and HR mock interviews. We anticipate more than 60 students will be attending this year’s camp.

For the past two years we have also organized an Orientation Camp where we have brought first year scholarship recipients to Bangkok for a two- day orientation program to learn about American business and how the students can benefit from their association with AMCHAM. This year we are seeking a sponsor – with naming rights – to help us financially cover the cost of the Orientation Camp, which is Baht 250,000.

Both these camps require significant resources to deliver and if you can assist us with time, financial assistance, or even goody- bag items such as hats or shirts, this would be highly appreciated. Please contact Sheree at sheree@ amchamthailand. com for more details on how you can help.

The deadline to submit applications for the annual AMCHAM CSR Excellence ( ACE) Awards was on September 14; hopefully your company has already submitted an application. This is the eight year of the ACE Awards and the 10th year AMCHAM has undertaken to recognize the CSR programs of our member companies. The first two years the program was competitive in nature and changed in 2007 to recognize all companies who meet benchmark standards. The ACE program is an important part of AMCHAM’S annual agenda as it helps to promote and recognize the awesome CSR programs that our member companies undertake to invest back into the Thai society. Last year 62 companies were recognized and we anticipate that this year we will exceed that number.

Due to the increasing number of companies being recognized and to ensure that we can allocate sufficient time to allow companies to spotlight their programs, this year we are moving the event to a dinner format on November 22. Not only will this allow more time to present awards, but it will also provide companies with space in the lobby area of the hotel to present details/ information about their programs. We plan on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate the occasion. Please stay tuned for more details on this.

Best Regards, Judy Benn Executive Director
