AMCHAM Fedex Career Camp
AMCHAM recently hosted graduating scholarship recipients for a four- day camp designed to provide students with valuable skills and help them get the best out of their scholarships and their connection to AMCHAM.
From October 30 to November 2, around 55 graduating scholarship recipients gathered for the annual Career Camp sponsored by Fedex, where business leaders and human resources experts shared experiences about their first job and offered career advice to the students coming from 20 universities nationwide.
The Career Camp featured many practical activities to help students transition from the world of university lectures and tutorials to corporate working life. Workshops covered topics such as preparing resumes, professional communication, and interview skills. They also learned some life skills in a basic personal finance session.
The students were given a unique opportunity of visiting American companies in Bangkok including Seagate, Citibank, Con- rad Bangkok, as well as American School of Bangkok and NIST International School, where they met business and education professionals who shared their career experiences and advice.
Other highlights included a career night panel discussion and mock interviews with HR professionals.
“I enjoyed every minute of the Career Camp, especially the practice interviews and the career night with a panel of young executives. They inspired us with their stories, support and advice,” said Peeranut Changthongkhruea from Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai Campus.
Panida Thongsui from Chiang Mai University said, “Coming from a smaller, quieter city, it was very exciting to visit top companies and meet senior managers and executives. I have also made new friends from all parts of the country and look forward to more get- togethers in the future.”
This educational program is designed to encourage a new generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs from all parts of Thailand. The program has been running since 1976, and has been supported by Fedex since 2010.
The students received their scholarships from the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand Foundation’s ( ATF) Student Scholarship Program. Each year, the ATF awards scholarships to Thai students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. In 2016, ATF provided 200 scholarships.
Support for this program comes from AMCHAM’S social events and fundraisers including the Governors Ball silent auction, bowling and golf tournaments, and the Independence Day Picnic.
We are always looking to expand the program though, so if you would like to support a student under this program, donations of Baht 35,000, covering one year tuition and participation in the Orientation and Career Camps, can be made to American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand Foundation. Donations are tax deductible under Thailand’s Revenue Code.
