At 3am yesterday morning, a shooting took place at a night club in the middle of Bangla Road in Phuket’s Patong are, injuring one man.

The incident happened when the nightclub was closing down and Pongwarit Thiptara, 27, had a confrontation with another man.

The man, who Pongwarit said he had never seen before, shot him in the calf and back. He was taken to Vachira Hospital while the shooter fled in the confusion following the incident.

Police investigated the scene and found two 9mm bullet casings on the floor and blood near a table at the right-hand side of the stage.

Patong police are checking CCTV camera footage to identify the shooter and which way he escaped from the club.

According to a friend of Pongwarit, the shooter was sitting next to their table in the night club and when they were preparing to go home, the shooter had to pass in front of his friend and they accidentally collided.

The two men looked at each other for a moment and the man shot Pongwarit, even though there had not been a previous conflict.
