Astros edge LA in epic to seize World Series lead

The Nation - - SPORT -

It is being hailed as one of the great baseball matches and when it finally ended after five hours and 17 minutes yesterday (Thailand time), Houston had edged to within one victory of their first World Series crown.

Alex Bregman singled home Derek Fisher with the winning run in the 10th inning as the Astros won a tensionpacked thriller 13-12 to take a 3-2 lead in the first-to-four final series.

The game saw dramatic swings. The Dodgers shot to an early 4-0 lead, the Astros fought back to level, the Dodgers went 7-4 up, Houston levelled again … and then took a 12-9 lead, only for LA to equalise on the third out in the 9th inning (like a last-kick equaliser in football) to force overtime.

They can claim the crown by winning game six in Los Angeles tomorrow (7am Thailand time).

The Dodgers, seeking a seventh championship and their first since 1988, must win to force a winner-take-all seventh game the following day.
