In­mates to be en­rolled in train­ing to make guns for De­fence Min­istry

The Cor­rec­tions De­part­ment is re­view­ing in­mates in the prison sys­tem na­tion­wide who have been con­victed of il­le­gally mak­ing or mod­i­fy­ing guns to en­rol them in train­ing with the Royal Thai Army Ord­nance De­part­ment to aid the Min­istry of De­fence in man­u­fac­tur­ing weapons.

De­part­ment chief Pol Colonel Narat Sawet­tanan said yes­ter­day that he had in­structed prisons and re­mand fa­cil­i­ties na­tion­wide to re­view in­mates in­volved in gun crimes to re­spond to a pol­icy set by Prime Min­is­ter Gen­eral Prayut Chan-o-cha for qual­i­fied in­mates to be trained to as­sist the De­fence Min­istry’s weapon-mak­ing in­dus­try.
