Shelters used by PKK in northern Iraq destroyed
A NUMBER of weapon pits, shelters, arsenals and ammunition depots belonging to the PKK terror group have been destroyed in counterterror operations in northern Iraq’s Zap and Avasin-Basyan regions, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said Wednesday.
A TSK statement confirmed that the airstrike was launched late Tuesday based on intelligence reports regarding the terrorist positions.
Earlier Tuesday, seven PKK terrorists were killed in separate airstrikes in northern Iraq. Founded in 1978, the PKK has waged a decades-long bloody campaign against Turkey.
The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the European Union, resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.
Since then, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children. More than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have also been injured in attacks carried out by the terrorist group.
