25 DEAD AFTER TROOPS CLASH WITH REBELS IN SOUTH SUDAN

-

Twenty-five people are dead after clashes between rebels and government troops in South Sudan, a top army official said yesterday. The clashes in the village of Nhialdiu, in northern Unity state, occurred when rebel forces loyal to ousted vice president Riek Machar attacked government soldiers on Tuesday evening, according to Santo Domic Chol, deputy army spokesman. Civil war broke out in South Sudan in December 2013, after President Salva Kiir accused his long serving deputy, Machar, of a coup attempt. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than 3.5 million have been displaced since the conflict began.
