Turkey offers condolences to Mexico after deadly quake

TURKEY sent messages of support to Mexico the day after a powerful earthquake struck the country, killing over 200 people and causing a number of multistore buildings in the capital of Mexico City to collapse.

"We are saddened by the earthquake. … We share the grief of the Mexican people, ex- tend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish recovery to the injured," Turkey's Foreign Ministry said in a statement released yesterday.

Turkey has itself experienced severe earthquakes, most recently the 1999 İzmit quake that left more than 17,000 dead and destroyed towns and cities.

"While reiterating our strong solidarity with the Mexican government and friendly people of Mexico, we express Turkey's readiness to provide support by all possible means to Mexico if needed," the statement added.
