70 Daesh sus­pects cap­tured over the week­end

TURK­ISH po­lice car­ried out sev­eral raids across the na­tion over the week­end, net­ting a to­tal of 70 sus­pects be­lieved to have con­nec­tions to the ter­ror­ist group Daesh. All sus­pects are said to be for­eign na­tion­als.

PO­LICE ar­rested 70 Daesh sus­pects from across the coun­try on Satur­day, ac­cord­ing to po­lice sources. Po­lice made the ar­rests in the cen­tral Ana­to­lian prov­ince of Eskise­hir; all 10 of the sus­pects are Iraqi na­tion­als, said a source, who asked not to be named due to re­stric­tions on talk­ing to the me­dia. Si­mul­ta­ne­ous raids were car­ried out at nine ad­dresses in the city as part of a probe launched by the Chief Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tor’s Of­fice in Eskişe­hir. In Is­tan­bul, po­lice ar­rested 51 Daesh sus­pects, all for­eign na­tion­als, an­other source said. Po­lice con­ducted si­mul­ta­ne­ous raids in six dis­tricts of Is­tan­bul and seized nu­mer­ous doc­u­ments and dig­i­tal ma­te­ri­als linked to the ter­ror­ist group, the source added.

In the Aegean prov­ince of Izmir, po­lice ar­rested a futher eight Daesh sus­pects. In the cen­tral Ana­to­lian prov­ince of Malatya, po­lice ar­rested a sus­pect over links to the ter­ror­ist group. Se­cu­rity forces have been in­volved in a long-run­ning cam­paign to clear Daesh from Tur­key. More than 300 peo­ple lost their lives in Daesh-claimed at­tacks in Tur­key, where the ter­ror or­ga­ni­za­tion has tar­geted civil­ians in sui­cide bomb, rocket, and gun at­tacks.
