Despite a year of turmoil, a sizeable majority of Turks looked on the bright side in 2016, according to the results of TurkStat’s Life Satisfaction Survey. Those describing themselves as “happy” in Turkey were 61.3 percent, compared with 56.6 percent in 2015. The number of “unhappy” Turks fell to 10.4 percent from 11.4 percent. The rate of happiness increased to 64.5 percent from 60.2 percent for women and 58.1 percent from 52.9 percent for men.
