Wheat rustles tension between Turkey and Russia

An “unofficial sanction” of Russian wheat, maize and sunflower oil suppliers is hindering normalization of ties between the two countries, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich told his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Simsek by phone on Wednesday, Trade and industry sources said on March 20 Turkish buyers have stopped purchasing these products, amounting to an effective ban on their import from Russia, despite denials from Ankara. The Russian government said in a statement after the meeting between Dvorkovich and Simsek that both sides had expressed an interest in strengthening trade and economic relations and removing commercial restrictions.
