There is a serious resource problem
Istanbul has the largest number of refugees, hosting more than 540,000 Syrians. There are also 200,000 refugees from other nations. Municipalities’ per-capita share of tax revenue from the general budget is between 51 lira and 79 lira. Local governments in cities where refugees are now more than 3 percent of the population, face a scarcity of resources, the study said. Istanbul has 39 districts, 18 of which are more than 3 percent Syrian. There are three other districts with Syrian populations close to 3 percent. This calculation indicates a serious resource problem in nearly two-thirds of Istanbul municipalities.
According to the report:
The highest Syrian population in Istanbul is in Zeytinburnu 86 percent of the Syrians in Istanbul live on the European side and 14 percent live on the Asian side
The districts with more than 5 percent Syrian population are Zeytinburnu, Arnavutkoy, Basaksehir, Fatih, Sultanbeyli, Sultangazi, Sisli, Kucukcekmece and Bagcilar.
