Dinçer intervened, the scandal was called off
Aydın Dinçer, president of IMIB, intervened in the “Ziraat Towers Project,” in which forty thousand square meters of imported natural stone was going to be applied, the decision was changed.
Imported natural stone use at Istanbul Airport was a great shock for the Turkish Natural Stone Industry. Having missed the “advertisement opportunity of the century,” the sector had reacted, but the authorities had paid no attention. Aydın Dinçer, president of Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (IMIB), had emphasized a potential risk that was approaching in the past months. Forty thousand square meters of imported natural stone would’ve been used in the “Ziraat Towers Project,” which is comprised of forty and forty-six floored two skyscrapers in Ataşehir, Istanbul if Dinçer hadn’t intervened. As Marble Trend magazine, we also took action against this situation, which was unacceptable for a marble country such as Turkey. Hasan Ercazip, our editor in chief, brought the matter to the agenda under the topic, “Advertisement.”4
The minister gave the good news
Dinçer first contacted Mustafa Varank, minister of industry and technology, and Ruhsar Pekcan, minister of commerce. After the meeting of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM), the contacts and the initiatives started to pay off. And we received the good news in the past few days. Dinçer said that Minister Pekcan, who he ran across in an event, told him that the Ziraat Towers Project was redrafted, and national stones would be used in it. Having a construction area of 430.000 square meters in the International Finance Center of Istanbul, the giant towers are going to be adorned with Turkish stones stretching on a surface of 40 thousand square meters.
