‘Killed with herown scarf’
Woman’s body found months later
A man is on trial accused of murdering a sex worker with her scarf in a row over her fee.
Dubai Court of First Instance heard how the Bangladeshi allegedly strangled the woman and stole her mobile phone before fleeing to his home country in March 2013. Police discovered her body two months later. The 29-year-old accused was arrested in 2015 and, yesterday, denied the charge of premeditated murder.
Prosecutors said the man and his victim, who was also from Bangladesh, had sex in an area of Jebel Ali then argued over money.
The court was told that the accused strangled her, stole her phone and left the country.
According to records, he claimed that the woman asked for Dhs500 for her services and he only gave her Dhs200.
“She threatened to inform Dubai Police and I became scared and terrified and so I strangled her,” the accused was quoted as saying in official records. Dubai Police then found the woman’s ID and start tracing her mobile phone number.
“We discovered that he used her mobile number from Bangladesh.
He confessed that he killed her before snatching her phone and using it later,” an Emirati policeman said in official records.
The court did not explain when the accused returned to the UAE and how he was arrested.
The trial was adjourned until next month to assign a lawyer for the defence.
