Flydubai crew mem­ber planned move home

A flight at­ten­dant killed in the flydubai plane crash was look­ing for­ward to a new life in her home coun­try af­ter years of hard work and sav­ing, her brother said.

Jorge Delacruz said his sis­ter Laura Pa­tri­cia Delacruz, who died along­side 61 oth­ers when the air­craft crashed in south­ern Rus­sia last Satur­day, had been sav­ing to build a house in Bo­gota with her hus­band in the El Si­len­cio de Barranquilla area.

Speak­ing to 7DAYS from the north­ern Colom­bian city of Sa­banalarga, her brother said the fam­ily doesn’t ex­pect she will get a proper burial, as in­ves­ti­ga­tors con­firmed that only pieces of her body re­main.

“I don’t think there will be a burial be­cause they con­firmed that all that re­mains of her is body parts,” Jorge said.

“She had planned to re­sign in De­cem­ber,” he said. “She men­tioned to me that she was very tired.”

Jorge added that a shrine had been set up in the fam­ily home and a mass was held for her yes­ter­day.

“She was the best sis­ter,” he said. “She was very lov­ing and called home ev­ery day.

“I re­mem­ber, she came in De­cem­ber and brought gifts for us all, the whole fam­ily.

“She al­ways wanted to be a flight at­ten­dant.

“She ful­filled her dream, to be­come one and see the world. She is the god­mother of my son.”

Laura’s mother and brother were flown to Dubai last week to be with her hus­band An­dres Ruiz Diaz, also a flight at­ten­dant.

Jorge said his sis­ter’s hus­band has un­der­stand­ably strug­gled to come to terms with her death since the crash last week.

Jorge said: “He can’t ac­cept the situation. He doesn’t go to the apart­ment where they lived."
