Mother and son killed in attack
An Indian nurse and her infant son have been killed in a rocket attack on their apartment in a town near the Libyan capital Tripoli. The attack on Sunu Sathyan’s home took place on Friday, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on social media. Sathyan worked in a hospital in the town of Zawiya, Swaraj said, adding that she has asked the 26 other Indians working at the hospital to leave the area. The Press Trust of India news agency said that Sathyan’s husband, also a nurse, was at work when the attack took place. It was not immediately clear who fired the rocket. Libya’s chaos, five years after the uprising that led to the overthrow and killing of long-time autocrat Moammar Gaddafi, has left the country deeply divided and ruled by an internationally recognised government and parliament based in the east and a rival government and parliament in the capital, Tripoli, backed by extremist militias.
