Shisha smoker ‘smashed in face by staff’

A shisha cus­tomer was sub­jected to a vi­o­lent as­sault by ho­tel staff af­ter re­fus­ing to leave un­til he was fin­ished, a court was told. The Emi­rati, 26, was left blind in one eye fol­low­ing the sav­age as­sault in which he was struck in the face with a glass ash­tray, Dubai Court of First In­stance was told the in­ci­dent hap­pened on Septem­ber 12, 2015 at a three-star ho­tel Al Rigga. Two Egyp­tian wait­ers, aged 31 and 34, and two se­cu­rity guards, a 30year-old Egyp­tian and 26-year-old Ethiopian, are charged with caus­ing per­ma­nent dis­abil­ity of 35 per cent. Pros­e­cu­tors said the waiter came over at 2am and asked the smoker to pay the bill and leave. The vic­tim tes­ti­fied: “I didn’t like his tone... and I told him that I will leave when I’m done with the shisha. “I asked him for more coal and that I would I leave af­ter 3am.” The man claimed the waiter be­gan yelling, say­ing they wanted to close. He tes­ti­fied: “I yelled back at him and his mates came and pushed me, kicked me on the head and all over my body.” The man said he woke up in hospital un­able to see in his right eye. The men de­nied the charge and the trial was ad­journed un­til next month.
