Shisha smoker ‘smashed in face by staff’
A shisha customer was subjected to a violent assault by hotel staff after refusing to leave until he was finished, a court was told. The Emirati, 26, was left blind in one eye following the savage assault in which he was struck in the face with a glass ashtray, Dubai Court of First Instance was told the incident happened on September 12, 2015 at a three-star hotel Al Rigga. Two Egyptian waiters, aged 31 and 34, and two security guards, a 30year-old Egyptian and 26-year-old Ethiopian, are charged with causing permanent disability of 35 per cent. Prosecutors said the waiter came over at 2am and asked the smoker to pay the bill and leave. The victim testified: “I didn’t like his tone... and I told him that I will leave when I’m done with the shisha. “I asked him for more coal and that I would I leave after 3am.” The man claimed the waiter began yelling, saying they wanted to close. He testified: “I yelled back at him and his mates came and pushed me, kicked me on the head and all over my body.” The man said he woke up in hospital unable to see in his right eye. The men denied the charge and the trial was adjourned until next month.
