HEAD COACH WAQAR BEGS FOR PAKISTAN’S FORGIVENESS
Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis has “begged forgiveness from the nation” in the wake of the side’s elimination from the ICC World Twenty20 at the group stages. When Pakistan arrived back in Lahore at the weekend, huge crowds shouted “Shame! Shame!” at the players and staff following a campaign which saw only one victory, against Bangladesh, and defeats to India, Australia and New Zealand. Waqar, who is in his second spell as coach and whose contract is due to expire in May, said he would offer to resign if it improves Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes. He said: “I place my hands together and beg forgiveness from the nation. If my leaving makes things better, then I would do it without delay.” Also under fire is Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi who is expected to make an announcement soon about his future.
