Dubai is well known for its high prices and lux­ury shop­ping, but even high-end fash­ion brands strug­gle to shift their col­lec­tions.

This week­end bar­gain hunters will be tak­ing ad­van­tage as re­tail­ers off­load last sea­son’s goods with dis­counts of up to 90 per cent.

The Big Spring Clear­ance re­turns to the World Trade Cen­tre as brands come to­gether to sell off ex­cess goods un­der one roof.

Saeed Mo­hammed Me­sam Al Falasi, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the Strate­gic Al­liances Divi­sion at Dubai Tourism’s Dubai Fes­ti­vals and Re­tail Es­tab­lish­ment, said: “Fash­ion is a cy­cle, and most brands have to clear out their stock for new col­lec­tions to come in.

“This sale gives them one big plat­form to still of­fer their ex­cess items to res­i­dents.

“Re­gard­less of Dubai be­ing known as a lux­ury shop­ping des­ti­na­tion, sales like these are part of the busi­ness. Re­tail trad­ing is boom­ing in the coun­try and the spring clear­ance sale will not only of­fer shop­pers brands at un­match­able prices, but also give the brands a plat­form to sell their items to be cleared.”

Al Falasi also said the sale is a ma­jor op­por­tu­nity for those that would not usu­ally spend big on fash­ion to get some bar­gains.

He said: “This sale is a great op­por­tu­nity for peo­ple who do not usu­ally shop at lux­ury brands to buy their items at bar­gain prices.”

Tak­ing place from today un­til Satur­day, the sale will of­fer bags, shoes, cos­met­ics, per­fumes and other ac­ces­sories. The event in­cludes stalls by Ted Baker, ALDO, Tommy Hil­figer, Nine West, Steve Mad­den, Ree­bok and Adi­das.

Al Falasi said hav­ing com­pet­ing brands un­der the same roof drives down prices.

He said: “We have the best com­pet­ing re­tail­ers ex­hibit­ing in the sale, some of them are es­tab­lished brands, some still as­pir­ing, which makes it a great mix.”

Al Falasi added: “Our last event showed us there is an ap­petite for peo­ple to seek out a bar­gain which is why this year the event is big­ger in terms of space and num­bers of par­tic­i­pat­ing brands.

“It is the per­fect plat­form for our re­tail­ers to

fur­ther en­hance their pro­file and reach out to both loyal and new cus­tomers with amaz­ing of­fers.

“Al­most 60 per cent of the cus­tomers in Dubai malls are res­i­dents, which shows the lo­cal mar­ket is very im­por­tant.”

Ad­di­tion­ally, ev­ery vis­i­tor to the free event gets a chance to win cash and prizes in a daily draw.
