A Dubai teenager was the toast of a major international conference in New York, where she was a keynote speaker. Kehkashan Basu, 15, a student of the Deira International School, and founder of youth sustainability group Green Hope, delivered a keynote speech on the role of young people in the sustainability process at the Calhoun School auditorium in New York. She was invited as a keynote speaker to the Sustainability Through Student Voices conference organised by the New York State Association of Independent Schools. “As a young person who has been involved in this process since Rio+20, I firmly believe that realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals will require a time bound, transformative and universal approach,” said Basu. “It is imperative to establish transparent accountability mechanisms not only at global levels , but more importantly at local levels, for monitoring and review.” Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching five new bus routes as of this Friday (April 15) and introducing improvements to 13 others. The first is Route (F02), which starts at Al Fahidi Metro Station, heading to Al Karama via Al Mankhool and Burjuman. Others include (F16) from Noor Bank Metro Station towards the new Al Quoz Residential Area, (F17) from Noor Bank Metro Station to Al Khail Gate residential area and (F42) from Ibn Battuta Metro Station to Discovery Gardens.
