Would school catchment areas ease pain on roads?
We constantly read letters and comments about traffic chaos caused by the school run - school buses, parents doing drop off - public sector starting at the same time as schools etc. And there’s always suggested ideas such as special lanes for school buses, making school buses mandatory, staggering the start times of schools, offices and government departments across the city. One thing that is never discussed however, is the introduction of catchment areas for schools and offices, and I was wondering if this had ever been considered? They work so well elsewhere and help with congestion on the roads. It could be a walk for the kids to school, or just a short drive.
