Driving without licences
Police have caught 398 people who were driving in Abu Dhabi without licences. Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate said the illegal drivers were identified during the first three months of 2016. And the vast majority of these young people had either been given the cars by their families or had taken them from relatives for a drive without their permission. “It is very dangerous for young people to drive cars prior to getting a licence. These youngsters often cause accidents that lead to serious injuries and even death,” said Colonel Hamad Mubarak bin Atheith Al Amri, Director of Capital Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate. Police said all those people who were caught driving without licences were punished. According to UAE traffic laws, a person caught driving without a licence is either jailed up to three months or fined Dhs6,000 or in some cases they could get both punishments.
