Driv­ing with­out li­cences

Po­lice have caught 398 peo­ple who were driv­ing in Abu Dhabi with­out li­cences. Abu Dhabi Traf­fic and Pa­trols Direc­torate said the il­le­gal driv­ers were iden­ti­fied dur­ing the first three months of 2016. And the vast ma­jor­ity of th­ese young peo­ple had ei­ther been given the cars by their fam­i­lies or had taken them from rel­a­tives for a drive with­out their per­mis­sion. “It is very dan­ger­ous for young peo­ple to drive cars prior to get­ting a li­cence. Th­ese young­sters of­ten cause ac­ci­dents that lead to se­ri­ous in­juries and even death,” said Colonel Ha­mad Mubarak bin Atheith Al Amri, Di­rec­tor of Cap­i­tal Traf­fic De­part­ment at the Traf­fic and Pa­trols Direc­torate. Po­lice said all those peo­ple who were caught driv­ing with­out li­cences were pun­ished. Ac­cord­ing to UAE traf­fic laws, a per­son caught driv­ing with­out a li­cence is ei­ther jailed up to three months or fined Dhs6,000 or in some cases they could get both pun­ish­ments.
