‘It happens to those who don’t deserve it’
The family of an off-duty UAE soldier who was stabbed several times during a fight and left to die on a Fujairah beach have described him as a “quiet guy who wanted to help people”.
Police say Abdullah Ali Rashid Al Kindi was fatally stabbed by a friend following a fight during a barbecue in the Al Mathlat area.
Fujairah Police have arrested a 21-year-old Emirati in connection with the stabbing.
Al Kindi, 23, was found on Fujairah Corniche but died in hospital.
Now, his brothers have spoken of their loss and the attack on their sibling who should have been joining the UAE Armed Forces in Yemen, but was kept at home by an injury.
Jassim Al Kindi, 32, told 7DAYS: “I am still in a state of shock. I grew up with him and he was a quiet guy.
“He always wanted to help people. It’s just crazy. It always happens to the people who don't deserve it.”
“Abdullah was a soldier and he was supposed to go to Yemen as part of the UAE Armed Forces’ involvement in the Saudi-led coalition's Operation Restoring Hope to bring back legitimacy in the By Nawal Al Ramahi war-torn country. However, he could not go because of his health condition as he was suffering from back pain due to a slipped disc.”
Jassim added: “I believe that more than one person was involved in the murder of my brother. It is a planned murder, my brother was lured to the beach.”
Another sibling, Salem Ali Rashid Al Kindi, 40, said: “No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. There is no bigger loss than losing my brother.”
Police said the suspect was arrested eight hours after Abdullah’s body was found and that they are still trying to determine a cause of the fight.
Colonel Mohammed Al Shaer, director of CID at Fujairah Police, told 7DAYS: “The suspect said they fought over a personal matter.”
Lt Colonel Saeed Mohammed Al Hassani, Head of Information and PR at Fujairah Police, said: “Our sympathies are with the family. We are providing them with support.”
