Abu Dhabi park earns top award af­ter re­vamp

Umm Al Emarat Park has been awarded the pres­ti­gious Green Flag. The award is as an in­ter­na­tional bench­mark for green spa­ces. The park re­opened just over a year ago. In­ter­na­tional Green Flag Award Umm Al Emarat Park met var­i­ous cri­te­ria, in­clud­ing sus­tain­abil­ity, com­mu­nity in­volve­ment, clean­li­ness, safety, con­ser­va­tion and her­itage. Tanuja Kothari, Pro­ject Di­rec­tor, Al Ain Prop­er­ties, said: “Working to­wards se­cur­ing the Green Flag Award for Umm Al Emarat Park be­gan dur­ing the early stages of park de­sign and con­struc­tion. We wanted to make sure that it met the re­quired cri­te­ria for dif­fer­ent award cat­e­gories and we are de­lighted that we have fi­nally se­cured this pres­ti­gious award.” Dur­ing its in­au­gu­ral year, the park, formerly known as Mushrif Cen­tral Park, hosted 35 events, which at­tracted more than 800,000 vis­i­tors. On March 28, 2016, HH Sheikh Mo­hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Com­man­der of the UAE Armed Forces, re­named the park Umm Al Emarat Park, in hon­our of HH Sheikha Fa­tima bint Mubarak, Chair­woman of the Gen­eral Women’s Union (GWU), Supreme Chair­woman of the Fam­ily De­vel­op­ment Foun­da­tion (FDF) and Pres­i­dent of the Supreme Coun­cil for Moth­er­hood and Child­hood.
