Reaction to letter claiming Dubai is too expensive for travellers on a budget

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7DAYS... -

“Depends where you go in Spain or Europe. Ibiza, Marbella, Cannes, Monaco etc are just as if not more expensive than Dubai. Dubai does have options for the growing number of more money-conscious tourists. Most of the new hotels being built in the run-up to Expo are midmarket options. Dubai government has invested significantly in its public beaches with reasonably priced food offerings. Dubai is still positioned as a high end offering and it relies on this brand. The biggest problem for European tourists right now is the strong dollar which makes Dubai 20 per cent more expensive than usual.”

NICOLE DA SILVA OLIVEIRA

“Who can say that Dubai is too expensive? Us tourists just love paying £200 for a bottle that’s £30 in the supermarket back home (including duty and VAT).”

TOMMY DOHERTY

“Once again people are focusing on the past. Yes, Dubai has been considered as a luxury and very expensive destination so far however, authorities are trying to turn this around and make it available for everybody people still moan. Dubai is a great place and i guess the people who rather go to Benidorm coz it's cheaper they would never come to Dubai even if we matched the price. This is not their place.....”

SZILVIA OLAH

“In case you haven’t noticed there are millions of tourists on a budget or otherwise in Dubai regularly. Just try taking a walk in Dubai Mall on a weekend/regular day. Dubai has affordability of restaurants, hotels and transport for every level of tourist and residents alike.”
