Retrial in case of murdered maid
A couple that were convicted of killing their housemaid, burning her body with acid and dumping it in the desert will have their case heard again by the appeal court. Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation yesterday ordered a fresh hearing in the trial of the Palestinian wife and husband after deciding there were contradictions in the appeal court judgement. Official records stated that the Ethiopian maid was killed early in 2014 after a fight broke out between the wife and the victim. Prosecutors said the wife beat the maid unconscious with a stick, which caused her death. Her husband was then said to have poured acid on her body to try to hide her identity. The body was later dumped in Al Ajban desert in Abu Dhabi during the night. The pair were arrested after police found the woman’s body. Public prosecutors challenged the verdict at the court of cassation, stressing they were not satisfied with the sentence. The cassation court ordered a fresh hearing.
