Kyvat’s mistake in Russia could cost him his wings
Daniil Kyvat will sit down for crunch talks with Red Bull bosses after his disastrous first lap at the Russian Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old endured a nightmare home race on Sunday, twice hitting the back of Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari within the space of the first three corners.
The second incident led to Vettel crashing out of the race, much to the obvious frustration of the four-time world champion. Vettel did not shy away from letting his feelings be known as he exchanged words with Red Bull chief Christian Horner. Asked what Vettel had told Horner, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said: “That we need to have a serious talk with Kvyat. He’s right.
“He did not only ruin Vettel’s race and [Daniel] Ricciardo’s race, but also his own race. He had to do an extra stop. It was a disaster for Red Bull.”
Horner admitted Kvyat’s actions “screwed our race completely” though he felt as though Kyvat would “learn from it”.
However, there is a feeling that Kyvat’s place at the team could come under threat thanks to the impressive performances of 18-year-old Max Verstappen in the Toro Rosso.
