Rosberg says Halo haters need to ‘get over it’

Nico Rosberg is hopeful that those complaining about closed cockpits in Formula One will eventually get over the introduction of the safety device.

While many have praised the plans to introduce either a Halo or Aeroscreen next year, a number of high-profile figures in F1 have spoken out against the move. F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone does not like either of the proposed safety devices and even claimed that “nothing” should be done in regards to cockpit protection. But Mercedes ace Rosberg believes the safety issue cannot be ignored. He said: “We need it, for sure. It is the biggest danger zone that remains in our sport, as we have seen fatalities as well unfortunately, and so it is an area where we need to keep pushing safety.

“We are well aware that it is not ideal for the purists, and we [the drivers] are purists ourselves so we are well aware of that compromise.

“Hopefully the haters will get over it. Of course I respect them and I understand them, but hopefully they can get over it and it is the right direction for F1.”
