Boy found dead in hotel hot tub
Father tells how weekend trip turned to tragedy
A three-year-old boy drowned after falling into a hot tub in his family’s hotel room in Dubai.
The incident occurred when the Emirati family, who live in Al Ain, had travelled to Dubai to spend the long weekend in a hotel.
Police said the parents, their four children and their housemaid arrived for their stay on Thursday afternoon.
The family had booked a duplex apartment. It was not stated in which part of Dubai the hotel is located.
It’s believed that an hour after the family had checked in, the child, who was named as Saif Al Nuaimi, wandered off to the balcony where he fell into the hot tub.
His father told authorities that Saif slipped and fell into the hot tub that was on the balcony of one of the rooms in their suite.
“We had booked a double-floor suite in a hotel, for me and my family,” said the father.
“And during the first hour of our arrival and before checking out the entire suite, the housemaid went upstairs along with three of my sons, aged six and seven.”
The father says the maid and the children opened the door to the balcony to check out the hot tub and didn’t close it afterwards.
Police said Saif wandered out onto the balcony, slipped and fell in. He was found by the family. The father complained to the authorities that there were no barriers around the hot tub to prevent children from accessing it. He also said there was no warning in the room to alert parents.
Police are still investigating the incident.
