Maid ac­cused of steal­ing from boss

A maid has gone on trial ac­cused of steal­ing from her spon­sor with help from her boyfriend then run­ning off with him.

The 30-year-old Filip­ina and her 32-year-old Pak­istani boyfriend have gone on trial for steal­ing Dhs150,000 and jew­ellery worth Dhs10,000 from an Emi­rati man.

Prose­cu­tors said the maid had been work­ing for the Emi­rati in Al Rashidiya for four years when he dis­cov­ered the theft on March 2 this year.

“She stole from the safe and es­caped. My neigh­bour told me that he saw a man com­ing out from the house in the morn­ing af­ter we left,” the Emi­rati said.

Po­lice ar­rested the cou­ple 10 days later and they al­legedly con­fessed to the crime.

“She told me that she met her lover six months be­fore and they were us­ing so­cial me­dia to com­mu­ni­cate,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer in of­fi­cial records.

“She told him that her owner was keep­ing money in­side a safe in the house and he told her they needed to steal the money to change their fi­nan­cial sit­u­a­tion.”

The male de­fen­dant told po­lice that he wired Dhs100,000 to his home coun­try the night af­ter the theft, the court heard.

The cou­ple also al­legedly con­fessed to hav­ing sex many times in dif­fer­ent places at the prop­erty.

How­ever, the maid de­nies charges of theft, crim­i­nal abet­ting and hav­ing an af­fair.

The man de­nied charges of crim­i­nal abet­ting, tres­pass­ing, hav­ing an af­fair, com­ing to the coun­try af­ter de­por­ta­tion and stay­ing without a visa.

The trail has been ad­journed.
