By Ali Al Shouk The husband of the Reem Ghost has been sentenced to life in prison for wiring Dhs1 million to ISIS and proclaiming himself the terror group’s ‘Prince in the UAE’.

Mohammed Al Habashi Al Hashemi, 34, was convicted at the UAE Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi yesterday of seven-terror related offences, including plotting to blow up Yas Marina Circuit and IKEA on Yas Island.

Al Hashemi was married to Alaa Al Hashemi, who was dubbed the ‘Reem Ghost’ after killing American teacher Ibolya Ryan in Boutik Mall on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, in November 2014.

She was caught on the mall’s CCTV ghosting into the shopping centre in full niqab and calmly strolling back out moments after stabbing Ryan to death.

She was also convicted of planting a bomb outside the home of an EgyptianAmerican doctor on Abu Dhabi Corniche, on December 1, 2014.

Alaa Al Hashemi was executed in July 2015.

In the case of Mohammed Al Habashi Al Hashemi, the State Security Court had heard how he, along with his wife, had pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Baker Al Baghdadi in a voice recording posted online. He was also convicted of planning to assassinate a senior figure in the UAE government, sometime prior to his arrest on November 22, 2014.

A state security officer told the court how the defendant also declared himself an ‘ISIS Prince in the UAE’.

A second witness testified that laptops belonging to the man contained evidence of continued communication between him and websites belonging to ISIS and Al Qaeda.

The court heard that Al Hashemi sent between Dhs800,000 and Dhs1 million to a member of ISIS in Yemen in support of their cause and that he sought help to join ISIS in Iraq or Syria.

He was also found guilty of manufacturing explosives, accessing terrorist and prohibited sites and giving financial support to Al Qaeda, promoting Al Qaeda and ISIS online by posting images of the ISIS flag and lectures by Al Baghdadi and writing texts encouraging people to carry out terrorist acts. A labourer has been jailed for life for murdering another worker with a meat cleaver. The 22-year-old Pakistani killed the victim, also from Pakistan, following a row at their labour camp in Al Qusais, Dubai. Police said the victim had been sexually abusing the defendant while he was asleep and when the man found out he hit the victim repeatedly with the cleaver. The court ordered that the defendant be deported after serving his time in jail.
