Issues with unused Salik balance RTA’s response

7 Days in Dubai - - DEAR 7 DAYS -

I had the unfortunate situation of being told by Salik that the funds sitting unused in my husband’s account cannot be transferred to my new Salik account (or any family member). They kindly informed us that any money sitting in his account will remain there for five years, but when we said that he will no longer have a car registered in his name they replied with “sorry you will not get a refund”. So buyer beware - if you sell your car and you have a balance in your Salik account you will lose it. I am rather disgusted with how you have to pay taxes (tolls) wherever you go but when you no longer have a vehicle you are not entitled to get your money back. Kim Dubai

RTA RESPONSE: The procedure followed in using Salik balance states that it belongs to a single Salik account owner and he/she is responsible for utilising this balance wisely in order to avoid forfeiting it. Ahmed Dubai
