Clubber in sex assault bid during break-in
A woman has told of how she was attacked in her apartment by a drunk clubber who followed her home after a night out.
The Moroccan national, described in court records as a model, said she was washing clothes in her bathroom when she heard someone enter the flat in the Muraqabbat area of Deira on February 6.
The 35-year-old thought it was her sister, who she lives with - only to be terrified when the Comoros Island national pulled a bag over her face.
The 27-year-old is on trial accused of attempted By Ali Al Shouk rape, trespassing and drinking alcohol. He denies the charges.
The woman said: “My sister went to the grocery shop but she didn’t lock the door. I heard someone entering the flat and then he opened the door on me. At first I thought he lost his way - but he attacked me.”
She testified: “He knocked me on the ground and tried to strangle me with his hands.
“He tried to take off my clothes but my sister arrived and started yelling.”
It is claimed the man jumped from the first-floor balcony. The women were left shocked and they called police. The suspect was arrested a short time later. An Emirati police officer said that the man confessed, but the defendant disputed this in court.
The trial was adjourned to provide time for a lawyer to be assigned to defend him.
