Meat cleaver attack at camp
A man has been left partially disabled after fending off a drunken labourer who tried to hit him with the meat cleaver. The attacker was on a drunken rampage at a labour camp in Al Qusais when he saw the victim and tried to hit him with the cleaver, Dubai Court of First Instance heard. The 26-year-old Nigerian had been drinking and had already damaged a number of cars before the assault happened on December 4, last year. He had been wandering around the camp, threatening to kill people, witnesses said. The victim, a 32-year-old Pakistani man, said: “He ran towards me and hit me with the cleaver. I raised my arm to protect my head.” The blow injured the man’s arm and has left him partially disabled as a result. A security guard called Dubai Police, who found the Nigerian asleep in his room. As well as four cars, the defendant also smashed a number of windows. He has pleaded guilty to charges of assault and consuming alcohol without a licence.
