Meat cleaver at­tack at camp

A man has been left par­tially dis­abled af­ter fend­ing off a drunken labourer who tried to hit him with the meat cleaver. The at­tacker was on a drunken ram­page at a labour camp in Al Qu­sais when he saw the vic­tim and tried to hit him with the cleaver, Dubai Court of First In­stance heard. The 26-year-old Nige­rian had been drink­ing and had al­ready da­m­aged a num­ber of cars be­fore the as­sault hap­pened on De­cem­ber 4, last year. He had been wan­der­ing around the camp, threat­en­ing to kill peo­ple, wit­nesses said. The vic­tim, a 32-year-old Pak­istani man, said: “He ran to­wards me and hit me with the cleaver. I raised my arm to pro­tect my head.” The blow in­jured the man’s arm and has left him par­tially dis­abled as a re­sult. A se­cu­rity guard called Dubai Po­lice, who found the Nige­rian asleep in his room. As well as four cars, the de­fen­dant also smashed a num­ber of win­dows. He has pleaded guilty to charges of as­sault and con­sum­ing al­co­hol with­out a li­cence.
