DUBAI GETS READY TO GO IN-ZAYN
Former 1D star set for high profile Middle East debut at Autism Rocks Arena
F ormer One Direction star Zayn Malik left Dubai fans heartbroken when he pulled out of the boy band’s huge sell-out show at the Sevens in April last year. But he’s set to make up for all that with a solo show at the new Autism Rocks Arena on October 7. The Pillowtalk star will be making his first stop in the Middle East, and 117Live CEO Thomas Ovesen said: “It seems like the show I have been waiting to announce for so long has finally happened, and I know the many regional Zayn fans will share this sentiment 100 per cent. “Listening to Zayn's album makes you realise this will be not only a special Middle East concert and an exceptional start to his live career, but the start to a celebration of an amazing musical talent and future superstar.” Here’s all you need to know about the British pop heart throb ahead of the show.
With the release of debut album Mind of Mine in March, Zayn made history as the first male UK solo artist to debut at #1 with their first album on both the US Billboard Top 200 chart and the Official UK Albums chart. He is also the first UK act to debut at #1 on both the US and UK charts since 2009.
Zayn quit 1D last March, but had already pulled out of the world tour, which included the Dubai date. The band had been formed back in 2010 on TV talent show The X-Factor. Although all five of the boys had failed to progress as solo acts, music mogul Simon Cowell saw their obvious talent and put them together as a five piece. They finished third overall but signed immediately to Cowell’s record label.
Zayn might be a poster boy and pin-up for girls worldwide but the Bradford-born singer is taken. Formerly engaged to Perrie Edwards of Little Mix, he’s now stepping out and serious with Gigi Hadid. The American supermodel, who appeared with the singer in his Pillowtalk video, recently wore a T-shirt with the message ‘lol ur not zayn malik’ at a Drake afterparty.
Zayn, born Zain Malik in Bradford, north east England back in 1993, is in A-list territory. The 23-year-old was famously pictured in the front row of a Louis Vuitton fashion show alongside Kanye West and Joe Jonas. Recently, the Muslim star has been on the receiving end of some bizarre and racist rants from controversial American rapper Azealia Banks. The 212 star has since apologised but has been suspended by Twitter.
Zayn plays Dubai’s Autism Rocks Arena on October 7. Tickets will go on sale soon, pre register now to book your tickets at 117live.com
