Dubai makes room for Mriya
The world’s largest plane landed at Al Maktoum Airport. Ukrainian cargo airliner the Antonov An-225 Mriya stopped in Dubai en route to Italy, a tweet posted by Dubai Airports said yesterday.
A video posted on their Twitter account showed the colossal jet coasting along the runway before the aircraft’s nose opened upwards to unload cargo using a method called ‘elephant kneeling’.
The Antonov Airlines flight was carrying a 25-tonne rotor used in the oil and gas industry. The Mriya is the longest and heaviest plane ever built. It measures 84m in length and weighs 175 tonnes without cargo or fuel and 600 tonnes at full capacity.
